With more than a century of educational excellence, Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Social Work is a pioneer in social work education. The Master of Social Work Program online format extends this legacy to students everywhere, with a curriculum focused on developing clinical solutions through personalized, community-informed practice.
Not everything can be taught in a classroom, so students enrolled in the M.S.W. online format participate in clinical field education in which they put lesson plans into practice locally. M.S.W. graduates are able to truly help their communities by taking an empathetic, personalized and trauma-informed approach to clinical social work that considers individuals’ diverse experiences.
Graduates of the M.S.W. Program have an 86 percent first-time licensure pass rate — well above the national average.
VCU provides field placement opportunities throughout the country, so students can practice what they learn in their communities.
VCU faculty members apply a social justice lens and teach students how social justice principles can guide their clinical practice and make them more effective social workers.
VCU is consistently ranked as having one of the top M.S.W. programs in the nation and one of the highest-ranked M.S.W. programs in Virginia by U.S. News & World Report.
